What is a Root Canal?

root-canal-omaha-dentistDo you have tooth pain that is becoming more and more noticeable? If so, it may be the result of an infection. Infected teeth are usually caused by tooth decay deep in the tooth or gum. If you are suffering from an infected tooth, treatment is necessary to stop the spread of the infection and to completely get rid of the infection. Without treatment, infection will continue to get worse and will eventually need immediate intervention.

One of the most common methods of treating severe tooth infections and decay is with a root canal. Root canals are endodontic procedures that are often completed in two visits. At the first visit, you will be numbed and as much of the infection as possible will be removed from the infected tooth and surrounding gums. Once the majority of infection is removed, a temporary filling will be used to help protect the tooth. At the second visit, the rest of the infection will be completely removed and a sealant will be applied to stop any future infections and to completely heal the infected tooth.

Additionally, root canals have many benefits, such as:

  • The ability for more natural tooth preservation
  • Being more cost effective than other treatment options
  • Being a less invasive procedure than dental implants or dental crowns
  • Increased comfort during treatment because tooth extraction isn’t required
  • The ability to alleviate the discomfort and pain that an infected tooth may be causing

Are Porcelain Veneers Right for Me?

porcelain-veneers-nebraska-dentistryAre you unhappy with the look or feel of your teeth? Do you often feel self-conscious when you smile? If you are unhappy with these flaws, porcelain veneers might be the right option to take care of your dental needs and give you the beautiful, healthy smile you deserve for years to come.

As a dynamic cosmetic dentistry solution, porcelain veneers can solve many dental problems. You might be a candidate for this corrective option if you have problems such as:

  • Significant gaps in your teeth
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Broken, cracked, or damaged teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Teeth that differ in size or length
  • Teeth that are crooked or misaligned

Depending on your individual needs and personal preferences, our dentists can help determine if you are a good candidate for veneers or not. Porcelain veneers are generally a good fit for many patients because they are specifically designed to fit your mouth and teeth and can make your teeth the shape, size and length that you find particularly beautiful. In some instances though, traditional orthodontics might be a better option, such as if you have more severe misalignment, larger gaps, or severely crooked teeth.

If you are unhappy with the look of your smile, please call The Dentists at Hillsborough at 402.445.4647 today to schedule a consultation. Our highly skilled Nebraska dentists can help you determine if porcelain veneers are the right option to give you the beautiful smile that you desire.
