During a patient’s exam and consultation process, not only will a plan of recommended treatment be discussed, but also a financial plan to help you budget for any recommended dental treatment. Our Financial Coordinators will discuss all fees involved with your treatment plan, the amount we expect to receive from your dental insurance company for your treatment, if applicable, and the different payment options we have available.
We are glad to answer any questions that you may have regarding the best way to comfortably afford your needed dentistry. Please contact us online if you need assistance, or call Hillsborough: 402-445-4647, Village Pointe: 402-505-7474, Ralston Square: 402-733-4441, or Dundee: 402-502-5593 to schedule an appointment at one of our offices in Omaha.
Understanding Your Dental Plan
If you have dental insurance, our office will estimate your benefits based upon the information given to us by your insurance company. We will collect your portion at the time services are rendered. We are contracted with several insurance networks and we will gladly assist you by filing and processing all insurance claims.
We ask that you please keep in mind that our relationship is with you, the patient. Our doctors will always diagnose and treatment plan in your best interest, whether or not you have insurance. Insurance constitutes an agreement between the carrier and the patient. Our dental office is simply a third party. We will always do our best to make the most of your dental benefits, but we consider the patient primarily responsible for their account.
Dental insurance is highly complex and creates confusion for many of our dental patients. The complexities of dental insurance and lack of sufficient information provided by some insurance companies make it almost impossible for some patients to properly understand their benefits. The following are some dental insurance questions that are frequently asked in our office.
Questions About Insurance?
Do you accept my insurance?
We will gladly file all private insurance plans and we do participate in several PPO programs. Even if we are not “in-network” with your particular plan, this does not mean your insurance company won’t pay for your visit. Many times, there is not much difference between in-network and out-of-network coverage. A large number of our patients who are out-of-network realize that choosing the best dental treatment available for them is worth the occasional slightly higher co-pay.
How much will they pay?
Our staff is very knowledgeable about dental insurance. We will verify your benefits and assist you by obtaining a breakdown of your particular plan. With this information, along with past payment histories, we can give you an accurate estimate of co-pays due at the time of service.
I thought I paid my portion but I got a bill…why?
We base the patient portion of your bill on the most current data given to us by your insurance company but there are many factors that can affect this estimate. There may be a deductible. Perhaps you saw another provider which used up part of your annual benefit. Or maybe there have been changes in your policy or coverage. Insurance companies do not notify us of these changes. They will only notify you and your employer.
Insurance will not pay for my recommended treatment. Why not?
Our goal is to help you achieve and maintain optimal dental health. Unfortunately, some services that you may want or need may not be covered by your particular insurance plan. Their goal is to provide only negotiated benefits for services specifically selected by your employer. As your dentist, we have no control over how much or even if dental insurance will reimburse you for your dental care. Our office can only assist by completing and submitting dental insurance forms to achieve the maximum reimbursement possible.
